What is Tungsten?
Tungsten (chemical symbol W) is a dense transition metal with a high melting point and is extremely hard. It is famous for its very high melting point (3422°C), the highest of any metal. Tungsten is often alloyed with other metals (e.g., copper, bismuth, nickel) to create high-strength, high-temperature resistant alloys. These alloys are widely used in aerospace, military, tool making and other fields.

Resistance to high temperatures: Of all metals in their purest form, tungsten has the highest melting point (3422°C). This can be hugely beneficial in certain situations (particularly when compared to other more common metals).
High-density: Tungsten benefits from a very high density. In fact, at 19.3 g/cm3, it is amongst the highest of all metals, with tungsten’s density measuring approximately 19.3 times higher than that of water and 1.7 times higher than that of lead.
Low thermal expansion: Tungsten has the lowest coefficient of thermal expansion of all pure metals. Compared to common manufacturing materials this gives it the benefit of added stability under extreme heat.

Electronic structure: Due to its conductive properties and relative inertness, tungsten metal is widely used in the electronics industry and environments involving high levels of radiation.
Corrosion-resistance: Tungsten is highly resistant to corrosion and can be used in a range of corrosive environments and outdoor applications.
Strength in fabrication: Tungsten is an extremely robust metal, with the highest tensile strength of all pure metals.

Features of Tungsten
Tungsten has the highest melting point of all metals, relatively stable chemical properties. Excellent resistance to electrochemical corrosion, and corrosion resistance to air.
High wearability, high hardness, high density. Good high-temperature strength. Good electron emission properties. The pressure processing and heat treatment process status mainly determines mechanical properties.
Application of Tungsten
Glass manufacturing:
In the glass industry, a tungsten cube is used to heat glass materials, such as glass kilns and glass-forming equipment.
Electrodes:
Tungsten cubes can be used to manufacture electrodes, for example in EDM, arc welding, and other electrochemical applications.
Medical equipment:
In the medical field, tungsten cubes can manufacture radiation therapy equipment, X-ray tubes, and other medical devices to provide radiation shielding and high-temperature performance.
Chemical engineering:
Due to its corrosion resistance, tungsten cubes can be used in chemical engineering fields such as the manufacture.
Production Process of Tungsten
Extraction of tungsten from ore:
Tungsten concentrates, such as scheelite or wolframite, are processed by dissolving them in an alkaline solution (like concentrated sodium hydroxide) under pressure.
Tungsten powder production:
It is heated in a hydrogen atmosphere to a high temperature, a process called hydrogen reduction, which converts the into pure tungsten metal powder.
Compacting:
The tungsten powder is weighed and compacted into the desired shape (such as a bar or billet) using presses, forming a green compact that is fragile.
Machining & finishing:
The tungsten parts are then machined to exact dimensions, and May undergo final treatments like vacuum annealing to relieve stress and improve toughness.
